The Growing Need for Executive Function Coaches

December 2, 2024 by F. Tony Di Giacomo, Ph.D.
Executive Functioning, Study Skills, Tips for Students

Why we’re committed to helping all students thrive

A recent Wall Street Journal article, “The New Must-Have for Overwhelmed Kids: An Executive Function Coach”, captures a reality many parents, educators, and students are grappling with: the relentless pressure on children and teens today. As the founder of a company dedicated to building strong, capable individuals, this issue resonates deeply with me and underscores why our work is so important.

Homework assignments, extracurricular activities, and social expectations pile up quickly. It is no surprise we are witnessing increased stress and burnout among students. The WSJ article highlights the growing trend of families turning to executive function coaching as a critical lifeline – and for good reason.

What Executive Function Coaches Really Do

Executive function skills are essential for students to manage their daily lives effectively. These skills include completing homework, time management, organization, goal setting, and resisting distractions. When these skills are weak, students often feel overwhelmed and underprepared.

Executive function coaching is about empowering students with lifelong skills to navigate an increasingly complex world. As the WSJ article notes, more parents are recognizing this and seeking personalized support. This is a crucial turning point in how we think about education and student success and Novella Prep is here at each turn.

How Our Approach is Different

Novella Prep equips students with tools for long-term success and resilience. Here’s what sets us apart:

Individualized Focus: Every student’s challenges are unique. We take the time to understand each child’s strengths and pain points to craft a personalized strategy.

Building Independence: Our coaches work to transfer these vital skills so students are equipped to succeed independently in any stage of life.

Beyond the Classroom: From college planning, college persistence, and career readiness to job interviews and everyday responsibilities – we help students become confident, capable adults.

Data-Driven: Through capturing cognitive and non-cognitive data, we are able to correlate attributes such as mindset, attitude, and overall sentiment with achievement to prescribe very accurate and effective instruction.

Meaningful progress happens through consistent support, practice, and encouragement. Our team of experts is dedicated to helping students and their families to thrive holistically.

Our Invitation to Parents and Educators

We must rethink what students truly need to succeed. This is why I founded Novella Prep and why I am so passionate about this work. If you’re a parent who sees your child struggling to balance their responsibilities or an educator witnessing student burnout, we are here for you.

We need to create an environment where students can be both academically successful and personally fulfilled. If you are interested in learning more about how we can support your child, please reach out!
