Reimagining Student Success Series Chapter #1: Achievement within Reach

January 15, 2019 by F. Tony Di Giacomo, Ph.D.
Student Success

With all of the information we have at our fingertips, why is being a successful student so challenging? As parents, we want the best for our children, and often equate academic success with setting the foundation for that child’s potential to end up with a successful and fulfilling career. As students, you ultimately desire to be happy, engaging in a vocation that inspires you and changes the world for the better. So, how do we get there?

There are three main factors that define a successful student, regardless of you grades or courses:

  • Retention: What students must retain, or remember
  • Responsibility: Students should be responsible for what they are taught
  • Relationships: Students need to work with teachers, counselors, and coaches toward helping help them achieve specific goals

When combined, students are empowered with an ethos that ensures they can start to change their story, their narrative, from being pushed along, grade to grade, to writing new chapters that feel right.

Students, if you feel you are getting the highest grades possible, get 8 hours of sleep per night, can easily manage studying without the distractions of Netflix, Youtube, Social Media and Texting, never miss assignments, and are not stressed, then you have achieved student success, congrats! But for most students, whether feeling stress from balancing school with life in general, pressures from friends and adults, or who want to make some improvements, follow our upcoming blogs on measuring study habits, mastering homework, and the three elements to becoming a better student. Together, they will provide you with the essential tools to become a successful student.
